Licensing stock photos, vectors and illustrations
Upload once, earn a royalty every time a business licenses your file

The idea
You build a portfolio of commercially useful images – photos, vector icons, backgrounds, illustrations – and submit them to a stock agency such as Adobe Stock. Each time a customer licenses one, you earn a royalty. The agency handles customers, licensing contracts and payment; your job is to produce in-demand files and keyword them well.
Why it works
- Royalties are published: Adobe Stock pays 33% for photos, vectors and illustrations and 35% for video, on the net US license price (Adobe, updated Jul 2026).
- Adobe's own example: a $29.99 plan with 10 photo licenses gives about $0.99 per licensed photo (29.99 ÷ 10 × 33%). Large-subscription licenses pay at least $0.33–0.38 per asset.
- Generative-AI content is accepted if it meets quality standards and is labelled “Created using generative AI tools” – so a solo creator can work in illustration styles without a studio.
- Files keep earning long after upload; the work compounds as the portfolio grows.
First steps
- Read Adobe's rejection reasons and generative-AI guidelines before making anything.
- Pick 2–3 commercial themes buyers need (business backgrounds, seasonal flat-lay, isolated objects, icon sets).
- Produce and submit a first batch of 50 files with accurate titles and 25+ honest keywords each.
